Wedding DIY – Pine Cones

So it’s that time of year where we’re slowly saying goodbye to that Great British sunshine and hello to the darker mornings and chillier evenings and with that in mind I thought it best to write a blog with a little bit of inspiration from the changing seasons.

Pine cones.

Now if you’re planning a wedding for this winter you may be well accustomed with the wonders of pine cones and how easily you can incorporate them into your wedding but for those who want to try adding your own personal touches to your special day with a little bit of DIY and a whole lot of patience then here are just a few ideas to get you started.

First things first you need to dedicate some time to go pine cone picking – take the dog for a walk down the woods, or your soon to be husband/wife, whichever is easier to persuade out of the house, and get collecting!

I’ll start by getting the easiest DIY option out there – wedding cake toppers. A Him pine cone and a Her pine cone, a little bit of felt and a little bit of lace and maybe a little sparkle – easy, you could even get the hubby-to-be to do it!
20 21Table decorations, whether you decide to go tall, flat or cute and in the middle, you can add candles, flowers, ‘fake snow’ anything!!! Now it takes me a while to write these blogs but it takes me even longer to find the photos that match what I want to say, but, I’ve managed to find three images, all completely different, but all easily adapted to make your wedding decorations that little bit more personal. I personally love the tall standing vase, for me all i would add is a little bit of colour or sparkle – I love sparkle.

Now this one depends on your number of guests and just how many pine trees there are around where you live – name card places. What a quirky little way to stand your name cards up on the tables – so long as you’re able to balance the pine cones, and put in the hard work find the perfect pine cones, the effort here is minimal but at the same time i think the look is really effective.

Why not jazz it up a little bit with these cute little firelighter pine cones that could easily be used as name cards in the same way as the photos above. They could be used if you plan to have a fire for the evening or even as a gift for your guests to take home with them and place on their fires back home, you could even add essential oils to them so for those friends that don’t have fireplaces they’ll have a pretty and delicious smelling decoration instead!fireHis and Hers flowers – from bouquets to buttonholes, of course you both have to be matching. Now my personal favourite that I have found, with the hopeful intention of being a bride one day, is this bouquet with different feathers, sticks and flowers. With a simple lace dress and something like this in your hand you’re bound to have him weeping at the altar – which is what we all want, right ladies? And for buttonholes – to be in keeping with the bouquet, add a little flower and possibly add a feather and he’ll be looking nearly as beautiful as you.

Now i’m back to the girls in the wedding party, bride and bridesmaids – what better token to keep forever than this cute little necklace, fair enough, I know you can’t make this, but it really can’t be missed!

And of course what better way to remember your pine cone themed wedding and to start of your wedding photos than with a beautiful photo of your rings rested on a pine cone – it’s a must for the photographer list!22

It’s Always Tea Time…

It’s always tea time… according to the Mad Hatter.

Afternoon Tea – A theme that will never go out of style and one that can be guaranteed to create your perfect wedding.
With afternoon teas growing ever more fashionable for brides and grooms, here at RED we have a menu dedicated to just that with plenty of exciting ideas that can be created bespoke for you!!

So first things first… Where better to start than with a selection of finger sandwiches served on a fluffy White Farmhouse and a Granary loaf.

For those cheese mad lovers – Sussex Charmer Cheddar, Vine Plum Tomato, Homemade Chutney, to the fish fanatics – Smoked Salmon, Parsley & Caper Mayonnaise, RED can guarantee to cater for all your guests needs, even the gluten free’s!!

The savoury nibbles – yes please. Where do I start, they all sound delicious as I’m sitting here wondering what’s for dinner, but I’ve managed to whittle the list down to my top 4:

Red’s Soft Scotch Egg, Water Cress Mayonnaise
Roasted Goats Cheese, Onion Marmalade & Roquette Tart
Chicken Satay, Fresh Lime, Satay Dipping Sauce
Red’s Sausage Rolls, Mustard Ketchup

They sound amazing right? Not only that but they’re great portions and certainly leave you pleasantly full (leaving just enough room for the best course of them all!!!)! Take a look at our menu and see which 4 you would choose.

Something Sweet – Cakes, cake and ooo more cake! Where could you go wrong…
An afternoon tea would not be so without Fruit scones made the Cornish way oozing with strawberry jam and clotted cream and homemade lemon drizzle and carrot cake, (admit it, you’re starting to feel a little hungry) served rustic or vintage, on platters, stands or board, whichever fits with your theme the best. I can guarantee that not even a crumb will be left to clean off the plates – which helps us save on the water bill…

From savory to sweet and that first sip of tea, choosing RED to deliver your afternoon tea styled wedding could mean those 6 impossible things you think of before breakfast may not be so impossible (if they’re wedding related – we’re not so good with magic)!!

And just to finish of I cant resist adding this wedding cake that one of our lovely couple’s had at their wonderland themed wedding!!

A Busy Weekend With Huge Success At Two New Venues For RED

We began this week with 3 slightly burnt and bruised chefs, 2 newly refreshed event managers (after a whole tonne of sleep on Monday) and a warehouse filled with ‘stuff’ – the aftermath of an extremely successful and busy weekend for RED.

Delivering events at a supreme standard is something we pride ourselves in doing here at RED, and to have completed the weekend having delivered 3 beautiful weddings and 2 superb private events, all with impeccable feedback which only encourages us to continue working towards being the best.

Coincidentally, this weekend we had two Tipi Tents at two lovely venues of which we got to show off our skills for the first time at both venues. Not only was it the first time for venues it was also my first time working in a Tipi Tent. At first when we were in the process or setting up the tents the week prior I have to admit, I was a little anxious – there were giant wooden poles and ropes sticking out in all directions, but all my worries were washed away (no not by the rain – may I add we all looked very flattering in our wellies and rain coats!) once tables and chairs were in position, and the bride and groom’s-to-be with friends and family started to add their finishing touches.                                              rob and jo 4chafford park 1MFirst things first Heaven Farm; Wow, just wow. What a perfectly picturesque venue complimented by a lovely Tipi Tent. Even with a few minor showers this weekend for our lovely bride and groom, there was no way a little bit of rain was going to stop these newlyweds from celebrating the wedding they’ve been dreaming of.Mrob and joOnce the showers had shied away the arrival drinks were in full swing, guests were all offered a glass of prosecco with the possibility of ‘pimping’ their prosecco.

Following shortly thereafter were 5 mouth-watering canapes that went down a treat:

King Prawn and Chorizo Skewer, Mango Glaze
Blue Cheese & Spring Onion Potato Cake, Roasted Garlic Aioli
Smooth Chicken Liver Parfait, Brioche, Orange Jam
Strips of Sussex Chicken in Sesame Seed Crumb, Hoi Sin Sauce
“Cheese & Pineapple” Parmesan Shortbread, Roasted Pineapple, Goats Cheese (v)

So that’s one successful Tipi wedding; The second successful Tipi wedding, after the minor bridesmaid hair setting alight drama was over, was, again, just another muddy field transformed into, again, a beautiful wedding venue – Chafford Park. This particular couple decided to go ahead with having their ceremony in the newly refurbished Hop Barn. It was hay bale galore for this given wedding as the bride and groom had done away with chairs in the ceremony instead hay bales decorated with hessian runners for a more unique feel and also fitting very well with the barn.chafford park 2 chafford parkWhilst the drinking and dining were well underway, what the guests didn’t know was that happening behind the scenes was the 6-hour long cooking process of two giant hog roasts! Hog roasts are not only a perfect way of soaking up the alcohol mid evening and feeding 100+ hungry party animals, some of our bride and groom’s decide to kick of their wedding in style with the chefs on show serving the deliciously cooked meat along with complimentary salads as part of their wedding breakfast.13340923_10155134079923521_673339167_oLooking for a way to make your wedding day slightly more special and bespoke, why not get in touch with us here at the office and who knows we could be seeing you in the coming years looking incredible in your breathtakingly beautiful dress or extremely dapper in your suit, celebrating the wedding you’ve been longing for.

RED Anywhere At Castle Goring

A weekend like no other… until the next time. This weekend just gone marked a first for RED Anywhere; Months and months of organisation, discussing menu choices and finalising timings, exchanging emails/calls with suppliers and being followed by a camera crew (thankfully myself and Sophie had filed our nails before being recorded folding napkins and setting up the marquee), allowed for the RED team, full of determination, to deliver our first Castle Warming Ball. As you may be able to imagine it was slightly chaotic at times.

Castle Goring, as you may already know if you’ve been following us on social media, is our current ongoing and exciting challenge. Our biggest challenge yet, we hope, has been marked with a huge green tick, on behalf of ourselves and Lady C – To deliver Lady C’s Castle Warming Party with unsurpassable everlasting impressions for Lady C and her guests. The party was in fact the first time that Lady Colin Campbell has ever experienced our food and what we do, which meant that our game faces were worn from the moment we stepped out of bed (after an added caffeine boost).

Praises were sung highly throughout the evening as guests were delivered sublime courses. Take a look at the bespoke menu designed for Lady C:

Foie Gras Pate, Smooth Foie Gras Pate, Toasted Brioche, Kumquat Chutney, Herb Salad
Duo of Guinea Fowl
Confit of the Leg, Breast Roasted and Sliced, Fondant Potato, Sussex Asparagus, Morel Mushroom Sauce
Theme on Chocolate
Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart, Double Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Crumble, Raspberries and Raspberry Sorbet

Flower displays created by Jay Archer Floral Design, complimented the castle immensely!! The thought that went into each display was apparent to all guests who attended from the moment they walked through the castle doors, viewing the beautifully decorated stair case, to the entrance into the marquee (provided by our sister company Blank Canvas Marquees) for dining where the table centers were very cleverly thought out for the round table dining style.

Now this is me slightly going off on a tangent, but the spiral staircase decorated elegantly with foliage and dotted with lanterns/candles, has to be, for me, one of the top unique selling points for the castle and all it has to offer – just imagine the possibilities for photographers to be able to capture the stunning brides and handsome grooms.

So with the tables laid for service, flowers arranged and great food to come, there was only one thing needed to complete the feel to the event. Sophistication and elegance were two themes Lady C, Sophie and myself had been insuring we worked towards and we wouldn’t have been able to create and/or perfected this feel if it wasn’t for Elegant Stationery, who captured exactly what we wanted through table numbers, menus and name cards.

Lady C’s certainly knows how to host a party, once the alcohol had started taking effect and the dancing antics were in full swing, instead of the music coming to an end and guests departing, Daniel Clarke, our very own Master Chef of Great Britain, was on show cooking breakfast (Springs Smoked Salmon & Duck Scrambled Egg) at 2:30am, helping to soak up the alcohol already consumed to allow for more drinking and celebrations to continue into the even earlier hours of the morning.

It would be unfair of me to finish this blog without giving congratulations to all of our kitchen/back of house/front of house staff who helped us to not only deliver Lady Colin Campbell’s Castle Warming Party, but two beautiful weddings; one on Friday, which with the lightning and thunder storm takes the phrase ‘angels confetti’ to a whole new meaning, and another on Saturday for yet another stunning couple who’s big day was well and truly celebrated by all guests invited! So a big well done to all of the team and I’m sure you’ll be hearing from me soon with more updates about our busy and event filled weekends to come!
